Abstract :
The emphasis on excellent results in examination has direct the teaching and learning process toward the abandonment of the need to develop student’s need to become more self-reliant individuals. The emphasis on excellent results in direct examination of learning and teaching that had neglected to shape a student s need to become more self-reliant individuals. This situation and the dilemma faced by administrators, teachers and especially the students. This study was done to see ( i ) the achievement of basic graduate students MARA Junior Science College ( MRSM ) compared to the daily school leavers , boarding schools ( SBP ) and religious schools ( ii ) the correlation between the results of students in SPM with the results they have obtained in Semester 1, 2011 during their study at Foundation Centre of Universiti Teknologi MARA ( UiTM ) ( iii ) correlation learning practices in school against the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia ( SPM ) , and ( iv) the correlation of the role of teachers and schools to SPM . Based on the analysis of the questionnaire was found leavers MRSM less prominent than school leavers daily, SBP and religious schools. There is a good correlation between the results obtained by students in the SPM examination results for Semester 1, 2011/12. It was also a good correlation between practice habits learned in school with the SPM results. It was found that there was a significant correlation between students perception of the role of teachers and schools to SPM. The majority of students do not make plans to learn but according to the model set by the teacher, the school and its environment. The analysis also showed that a large number of students who failed to excellence is also students who are not independent checkers still swayed by the practice to learn when in school. A small proportion of students indicated that they were well prepared for lifelong learning at a higher level. In conclusion, the practice of forming self-reliance among students menyesaikan allow them to get away with the atmosphere and climate of learning and teaching pre- university level is more oriented students.
