First Record of Red Palm weevil, Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Olivier, 1790) on the Date Palm, Phoenix dactylifera in Basrah, Iraq

Samples of insect adults, larvae and cocoons with pieces of infesteddeclining palm leaves of Phoenix dactylifera were collected in Safwan area which islocated south of Basrah, Iraq in mid-October 2015. The pest identified as a red palmweevil Rhynchophorus ferrugineus. This is the first record the pest in Iraq.
