Community Mental Health Nursing: Sample of Student Practice

Objectives: This study aims to present a sample community mental health nursing practice done with students of nursing Instrument and Method: Community mental health nursing practice is a 10-week practice where students make a shift with clinical psychiatry nursing area. The students kept the records related to 95 family in a folder. The records formed by the students were analyzed as well as the number of families/individuals accessed, nursing diagnoses they made with regard to the families, topics of the planned interview made with families and trainings. Findings: Students were determineted as the nursing diagnoses majority cognitive-perceptual field (58), coping-stress tolerance (37), role relationships (22). The topics of students’ interview with the family and health training topics were determineted as coping strategies, communication skills, the present disorders and protection, developmental features and parental attitudes and promoting positive health behaviors and preventing disorders . Conclusion: According to family records, students made the majority of the nursing diagnoses in the areas of cognitive spatial area and coping, stress tolerance. They mainly used coping skills as an interview topic and the disorders in the family and protection issues as training topics.
