Abstract :
Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of a planned educational program on health beliefs and metabolic control in type 2 diabetes patients Material and Methods: This study was a quasi-experimental research with a control group which isn’t intervened in a “time series” model. 100 individuals, 50 of which were in the experimental group and 50 were in the control group consisted the sample of the study. “Sociodemographic data form” regarding diabetes patients and “Health Belief Model Inventory” were used as data collection forms. “HbA1c” values were measured for metabolic control of patients. After the initial monitoring, a 10-session planned diabetes education program was administered to the experimental group during 10 weeks. Results: In the initial monitoring no statistically significant difference between Health Belief Model subscales mean points and HbA1c values of the two groups were determined. After the education program, significant differences between Health Belief Model subscales mean points and HbA1c values of the two groups were determined. Conclusion: After the administration of the planned education program, an increase was observed in the experimental group patients’ Health Belief Model subscales mean points and a decrease at the level of HbA1c values. In conclusion, it is determined that planned education program for diabetic patients has a positive effect on health beliefs and providing metabolic control.
