Abstract :
Objectives: This study was conducted in order to determine the opinions of elementary school teachers regarding school health nursing. Methods: The universe of this descriptive study was consisted of six elementary schools’ teachers in Ankara. Teachers who agreed to participate (n:302) in the study were included. The data was collected through a questionnaire. Results: Most of the teachers (92.7%) stated that there is a need for school health nurse and 91.9% of them said that school health nurse would contribute to the students’ health condition. 87.4% of the teachers agreed with the opinion “school health nurse will arrange health educations”, 40.7% of the teachers didn’t agree with the opinion ‘she/he does psychological counseling” and 22.8% of them didn’t agree with the opinion “she/he takes role in designing the environment of the school”. Conclusion: It was concluded that most of the teachers working in primary schools stated that there is a need for school health nurse but some of them were not aware of some of the duties of school health nurse such as chronic disease follow-up or psychological counseling. It is recommended that primary school teachers should be informed about the content of school health services and the duties of school health nurse
