Use of Group Psychoeducation in Nursing Care of Elderly

Psycho-education, including variety of methods and educational information which based on behavioral and psychotherapy interventions, is one of the psychological help type. Psychoeducation can be carried out with the group programs. Psycho-education programs by providing the necessary information or skills to a person in an individual, social, educational, or occupational area aim to prevent psychological problems and enable people to cope with those problems. Besides, the use of psycho-education in groups, there are also benefits such as interaction among the members, social learning, and social support. Nurses with the roles of direct care, support, education, and counseling are have important standing in running psycho-education groups. Nurse working with elderly people can be effective in care by providing assistance with handling emotional problems, physical care and dealing with physical disabilities. This study reviews the literature and discusses the up-todate information on the use of psycho-education in nursing care of elderly.
