Abstract. In this paper, a numerical study to analyze the turbulent flowand heat transfer characteristics of the impinging slot jets in a channelwith cross flow has been carried out. For this flow configuration, twocases were considered for the channel, one without ribs and the otherwith rib turbulators. The characteristics of air flow and heat transferare analyzed under different parameters such as the size of the jets, thenumber of jets and ribs, arrangement of jets and ribs, the pitch betweenthe jets and jet Reynolds number. An implicit finite volume scheme hasbeen used to integrate the continuity, elliptic Reynolds average Navier-Stockes and energy equation giving a set of equations valid for theentire computational domain. Turbulence effects are modeled using ak-º model. The wall effects are modeled using a wall functionapproach. The obtained results show that the recirculation regions, thelocal Nusselt number variation, and the turbulent kinetic energy aregreatly effected with the size of jets and ribs, the distance between thejets, rib thickness and jet Reynolds number. Also the results indicatethat the ribs arrangement with respect to impinging slot jets has asignificant effect on the heat transfer enhancement. The validation ofthe present code is done by comparing the present results with theavailable published experimental results.
