Abstract :
Gypsum is a soluble material, and it is one of the problematic components in the soil in the west of Iraq. Al-Najaf is one of the governorates in Iraq which suffers from the gypsum content in different levels. The soil of the city is mainly sand-sized particles bonded by different percentages of gypsum. The main problem of this component is the dissolution upon the wetting process in unsaturated conditions. This paper investigates the effect of decreasing the matric suction (wetting) on soil deformation under a specific stress level. A modified Oedometer setup is used to perform the tests, including the application of air and water pressures up to achieve the specific matric suctions. The investigation includes three matrics suctions of (50, 20, and 0 kPa) and each under three net normal stresses of 221 kPa, 442 kPa and 885 kPa respectively. The soil specimens are remolded to 95% of the maximum dry density from the proctor test. The results revealed that the highest value of collapse potential (CP) is under the stress of 221kPa. The greatest part of the CP is achieved before the saturation of the soil. This issue must be considered in the analysis and design of the foundation in unsaturated gypseous sandy soils as an improvement issue.

ﭼﮑﯿﺪه ﮔﭻ ﯾﮏ ﻣﺎده ﻣﺤﻠﻮل اﺳﺖ و ﯾﮑﯽ از اﺟﺰاي ﻣﺸﮑﻞ ﺳﺎز ﺧﺎك در ﻏﺮب ﻋﺮاق اﺳﺖ. ﻧﺠﻒ ﯾﮑﯽ از اﺳﺘﺎن ﻫﺎي ﻋﺮاق اﺳﺖ ﮐﻪ از ﺳﻄﻮح ﮔﭽﯽ در ﺳﻄﻮح ﻣﺨﺘﻠﻒ رﻧﺞ ﻣﯽ ﺑﺮد. ﺧﺎك ﺷﻬﺮ ﻋﻤﺪﺗﺎ از ذرات ﺑﻪ اﻧﺪازه ﻣﺎﺳﻪ اﺳﺖ ﮐﻪ ﺑﺎ درﺻﺪﻫﺎي ﮔﭽﯽ ﺑﻪ ﻫﻢ ﻣﺘﺼﻞ ﺷﺪه اﻧﺪ. ﻣﺸﮑﻞ اﺻﻠﯽ اﯾﻦ ﺟﺰء اﻧﺤﻼل در ﻓﺮآﯾﻨﺪ ﺧﯿﺲ ﺷﺪن در ﺷﺮاﯾﻂ ﻏﯿﺮ اﺷﺒﺎع اﺳﺖ. اﯾﻦ ﻣﻘﺎﻟﻪ ﺑﻪ ﺑﺮرﺳﯽ ﺗﺄﺛﯿﺮ ﮐﺎﻫﺶ ﻣﮑﺶ ﻣﺎﺗﺮﯾﮏ )ﺧﯿﺲ ﺷﺪن( ﺑﺮ ﺗﻐﯿﯿﺮ ﺷﮑﻞ ﺧﺎك ﺗﺤﺖ ﯾﮏ ﺳﻄﺢ ﺗﻨﺶ ﺧﺎص ﻣﯽ ﭘﺮدازد. ﺑﺮاي اﻧﺠﺎم آزﻣﺎﯾﺸﺎت ، از ﺟﻤﻠﻪ اﻋﻤﺎل ﻓﺸﺎر ﻫﻮا و آب ﺑﻪ ﻣﻨﻈﻮر دﺳﺘﯿﺎﺑﯽ ﺑﻪ ﻣﮑﺶ ﻫﺎي ﻣﺎﺗﺮﯾﮏ ﺧﺎص ، از ﯾﮏ ﺗﻨﻈﯿﻢ ﮐﻨﻨﺪه اﻧﺪازه ﮔﯿﺮي ﺷﺪه اﺳﺘﻔﺎده ﻣﯽ ﺷﻮد. اﯾﻦ ﺗﺤﻘﯿﻖ ﺷﺎﻣﻞ ﺳﻪ ﻣﮑﺶ ﻣﺎﺗﺮﯾﮑﯽ )50 ، 20 و 0 ﮐﯿﻠﻮ ﭘﺎﺳﮑﺎل( و ﻫﺮﯾﮏ ﺗﺤﺖ ﺳﻪ ﺗﻨﺶ ﻧﺮﻣﺎل ﺧﺎﻟﺺ ﺑﻪ ﺗﺮﺗﯿﺐ 221 ﮐﯿﻠﻮ ﭘﺎﺳﮑﺎل ، 442 ﮐﯿﻠﻮ ﭘﺎﺳﮑﺎل و 885 ﮐﯿﻠﻮ ﭘﺎﺳﮑﺎل اﺳﺖ. ﻧﻤﻮﻧﻪ ﻫﺎي ﺧﺎك در آزﻣﺎﯾﺶ ﭘﺮوﮐﺘﻮر ﺗﺎ 95 درﺻﺪ ﺣﺪاﮐﺜﺮ ﭼﮕﺎﻟﯽ ﺧﺸﮏ ﻣﺠﺪداً ﺑﺎزﺳﺎزي ﻣﯽ ﺷﻮﻧﺪ. ﻧﺘﺎﯾﺞ ﻧﺸﺎن داد ﮐﻪ ﺑﯿﺸﺘﺮﯾﻦ ﻣﻘﺪار ﭘﺘﺎﻧﺴﯿﻞ ﻓﺮوﭘﺎﺷﯽ )CP(ﺗﺤﺖ ﻓﺸﺎر kPa 221اﺳﺖ. ﺑﯿﺸﺘﺮﯾﻦ ﻣﻘﺪار CP ﻗﺒﻞ از اﺷﺒﺎع ﺧﺎك ﺑﻪ دﺳﺖ ﻣﯽ آﯾﺪ. اﯾﻦ ﻣﺴﺌﻠﻪ ﺑﺎﯾﺪ در ﺗﺠﺰﯾﻪ و ﺗﺤﻠﯿﻞ و ﻃﺮاﺣﯽ ﻓﻮﻧﺪاﺳﯿﻮن در ﺧﺎﮐﻬﺎي ﺷﻨﯽ ﮔﭽﯽ ﻏﯿﺮ اﺷﺒﺎع ﺑﻪ ﻋﻨﻮان ﯾﮏ ﻣﺴﺎﻟﻪ ﺑﻬﺒﻮدﯾﺎﻓﺘﻪ ﻣﻮرد ﺗﻮﺟﻪ ﻗﺮار ﮔﯿﺮد .
