Keberkesanan Penggunaan Buku Elektronik: Penulisan Karangan Berbentuk Deskriptif

This study is designed to examine the effectiveness of the usage of electronicbooks on descriptive Malay language essay writing in secondary schools.Through an essay writing activity, students in the experimental group wasgiven a treatment to document information obtained with the help ofelectronic books. This quasi-experimental study was undertaken on a group of Form Four studellts (n = 120). A total of 60 students were involved in the experimental group and 60 others were involved in the control group. The instrument used in the study is a descriptive essay graded using the Malaysian Examination Syndicate Essay Marking Scheme for Bahasa Malaysia I. The study uses a multivariate analysis to find out the essay mean score and the value added score using the General Linear Model -ANOVA Repeated Measures as well as the Multiple Regression Analysis. The results of the study show that the effect of the treatment given using the electronic book has increased students achievement in the descriptive Malay language essay. The value added score of the essay of the experimental group was significantly higher (p 0.05) than the control group. The treatment factor showed a meaningful contribution to the post-test achievement in comparison to the PMR Malay and English language achievements used as a covariate. From the affective point of view, the findings of the study also indicated that students interest, attitude, motivation dan self-efficacy are good; whereas, the anxiety level towards the usage of electronic books is average.
