Abstract :
Determination of managerial competencies is critical because of their contribution to both managers in their managerial tasks and managers in the organization they work. Competency assessment plays an important role in the performance appraisal process, so managerial competencies are important criteria for evaluating the performance of managers. Defining managerial competencies for organizations and moving towards the implementation of performance management systems have become inevitable, managerial competency is not clear whether to used or not as a part of their performance appraisal systems. The purpose of this study is to identify a set of managerial competencies currently being used by the organizations to describe successful managers and to investigate the usability of them in the performance appraisal systems. In order to achieve this goal made an empirical research on the 323 companies operating in the Turkish Automotive Industry. Research data were obtained with survey method. Descriptive statistics and t-tests were applied to analyze the data. The findings show that managerial competencies in the automotive sector have been considered as important for all managerial levels but not taken into account in performance appraisal systems of participating organizations.
