The Rediscovery of “History” in the Process of Financialization:The Construction Project as a Financial Center of Istanbul in Print Media

1970s represents an important breaking moment in the history of capitalism. In this periodwhen financial capital as a hegemonic leader come to the fore, the most ordinary practice ofindividuals and cultural-historical background of national states or cities that will function asa node for global-financial network in this national area has been marked as the process ofglobalization moments’. While national area, now, integrated into global space through afinancial capital, The historical-cultural background of that financial capital and social actorsfeeling/kindness about that city has begun to determine the level of the articulation. Thisfinancial capital in Turkey has been identified as Istanbul. In this study, about theconstruction work as a financial center of Istanbul, discources of different social actors intwo different newspapers having different positions politically, in Zaman and Hürriyetnewspaper were analyzed. In this way, said parallel to the process of financialisation, thisstrong “city” and “history” emphasis behind the notions of cultural-ideological and economypoliticalhave attempted to show.
