Abstract :
As the share and importance of cultural industries increase within the global economy, creative labour has become a subject of common debate particularly in the research on media and communications sector. However, this interest also involves an ambiguity about the form of labour the concept signifies. This article presents a discussion on the form of labour produced within the labor process and work relations in the cultural industries. The study lays down different conceptualisations of cultural production throughout the twentieth century and argues that creative labour takes on the form of cultural work in the cultural industries. Then, a discussion is put forth concerning the analysis of the cultural work form in the framework of the elements of capitalist labor process such as skill, control, alienation and exploitation. Finally, the potentialities for cultural work to produce resistance and struggle in cultural industries are debated.
