Abstract
A simple, sensitive,precise, accurate,reliable and reproducible spectroscopic methodinvolving the principle of absorption visible spcctrophotmctry is developed for the determination of Cefixtime in pharmaceutical formulations. This method is based on binding of Cefixime with 2-2 bipyridine. Ferric chloride and Orthophosphoric acid to produce anorange colored chromogen ((lambda)max at 520 nm). Results of analysis were validated statistically and by recovery studies. This method could be successfully employed for the determination of Cefixtime in various pharmaceutical preparations. The scheme of the reaction (Mechanism-I )explaining the formation of the complex is found to match perfectly with the above reactionand clearly explains the validity of the method. Hexavalent iron forms a complex with the reagent 2. 2 -bipyridinc in the presence of ferric chloride and then results in the formation or an orange colored complex that is measured spectrophotometrically.
