DEFINITION OF LOCAL WISDOM: A REVIEW

The academicians have been discussing the term local wisdom. It is used despite of different definitions of this term. There are scholars who created similarity between local wisdom and local knowledge as well as local genius. There are also scholars who differentiated the terms with local knowledge, yet created similarity with local genius. A number of scholars defined local wisdom as culture. The differences in defining the terms lead to variation of the study result. Therefore, this study aims to conduct a liteature review on the writings regarding to local wisdom and classifiy all definitions of local wisdom. The qualitative data were deductively analysed to summarise the definitions of local wisdom. The finding shows that the definition of local wisdom is different from local genius and local knowledge.
