NEW INTERPRETATION ON LOCAL HISTORY THROUGH LUKA NERING

Luka Nering is a novel based on the history of the Kesultanan Melayu Perak by Malim Ghozali PK. The novel was published by Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka in 2014 and nominated for the International Literary Award IMPAC Dublin 2016. This novel departs from the event of Pangkor Agreement in 1874 where British intervention of the Malay government. This work has rejected the manipulati on of facts about the overthrown of power by the colonial. The writer refutes the historical writing that has been done, especially by the colonial. The focus of this article is to discuss how the historical rejection is being argue when the historical fa cts have long been accepted publicly? The data for this study is based on qualitative methods. Content analysis is used as an instrument to analyze the data gathered from journals, books, newspapers and paperworks. This study uses the New Historianism theo ry by Stephen J Greenblatt as a framework of analysis. This study found that Luka Nering is a new historical text that rejects historical facts written by the western, especially the history on Kesultanan Melayu Perak. The author has given new historical i nterpretation to a number of issues, such as perceptions of local nationalist warriors, the emergence of residents and the history on the opening of the state. Through these new meanings from the political aspect of the power of the prince, the rotation sy stem of the throne and the manipulation of the agreement against the courtiers was well rewritten by Malim Ghozali PK. The new meaning from the social aspect shows the policy of divide and rule, the construction of mosques and tourism in favor of the indig enous community.
