Abstract :
The custom of going down to the ground is also known as the custom of reaching the ground or stepping on the ground or tracing the ground. This custom is a form of ritual that has been practiced since the time of our ancestors and is still practiced by the villagers, especially in some remote areas in the interior of Pasir Mas Kelantan. The custom of going down to the ground is a form of ceremony held to celebrate a child who is forty days old or forty-four days to first touch his feet to the ground. Nowadays this custom is rarely practiced due to the lack of knowledgeable practitioners to perform this ceremony. However, in some places, this practice is still carried out and the response is quite lively. Why do such things happen and how do traditional ceremonies go down? The purpose of this writing is to explain the customs of the descent and the process of the descent ceremony. This writing uses fieldwork methods involving interview process and library study to complete the data. The findings of this writing show that the children involved in the groundbreaking ceremony consisted of two categories. The first category is children aged forty days or forty-four days. These children will go through a shaving ceremony simultaneously with a ground-breaking ceremony. The second category is children who exceed the last period of the day (44 days) but are still not good at walking. Such children are said to undergo a groundbreaking ceremony with the help of a shaman or village midwife with a prayer recitation in a groundbreaking ceremony. This custom is symbolic from the nature of the baby to the world of children to walk fast and get to know nature. Such customs are rarely done but there are still some areas in the Pasir Mas district still make it a practice.
