The economic impact assessment of second homes in Yalova-Çınarcık

Due to second homes are not commercial accommodation sector, economic impact of second homes often overlooked. However, second homes leads a significant commercial tourism traffic. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the economic impact of second homes in Çınarcık. Second homes has an important economic role in Çınarcık where district of Yalova province. In order to determine, primarily types of expenditure and amounts of second home owners, we used convenience sampling to apply a survey to the 370 second home owners. Second home owners who regularly visit the district every year, and their expenditures for daily consumption goods and various services, provide extra regular income to the local economy. According to correlation analysis results; positive way correlation was found between the spending of second home owners and other variables such as the vacation time, age and income. With respect to result of Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis test; statistically significant difference was found between vacation time variable and in favor of women, above the age of 65, retirees and two-member families variables. For this reason it is important that, local authority should consider this group for the recreational investments.
