Using for recreational aims of second homes in tourism areas: Case of Pelitköy (Burhaniye/Balıkesir)

The aim of this research is to understand using for recreational aims of second housings in tourism areas. Different stakeholders were reached in the research which was carried in the quantitative and qualitative research design. The survey was made to the second home owners (350). Moreover, face-to-face in great detail interview was made via semi-structured forms for 18 people from second home owners. The survey data was analysed descriptively in SPSS 16.0 program and interviews was analysed descriptively in MAXQDA 12 program. According to the research findings, the second home owners who coming from different cities to area, have made recreation activities that are swimming, sunbathing, reading books on the beach, angling, backgammon, okey (rummikub) and card game. Moreover, they get busy with gardening jobs that are lawn watering, flower and tree care in their second homes. As a result, second homes offers to urban people significant opportunities as leisure and tourism activities.
