Synthesis of Pyrimidines via Base-induced Condensation of (alpha)-Chloro Oxime Derivatives

A facile synthesis of 2,4,6-trisubstituted pyrimidines from the reaction of (alpha)-chloro oxime ethers with Grignard reagents has been developed. Alkyl and aryl groups can be easily introduced at the 2-position of the pyrimidine core. In addition, a synthesis of unsymmetrical pyrimidines has been examined.
