Abstract :
The primary school period has an important place in gaining reading habits to children. However, there are limited studies focusing on the reading habits of primary school students in Turkey. Accordingly, it is considered that there is a need for an effective measurement tool in order to determine the level of reading habit of both primary school students and to determine the relationship of reading habits with other variables. In this study, it is aimed to develop a valid and reliable measurement tool to determine the reading habits of the fourth grade students. In this respect, first of all, an article pool was created and then expert opinion was consulted. Afterwards, exploratory and confirmatory factor analyzes were performed to ensure validity. Cronbach Alpha and Pearson Correlation Coefficients were used to calculate reliability. Data were collected from 333 primary school fourth grade students studying in Çanakkale in the fall semester of 2018-2019 academic year. 102 students participated in confirmatory factor analysis. Thus, four sub-factors and 21 measuring instruments were obtained. As a result of the analyzes, it is seen that the developed measurement tool is an effective measurement tool in determining the reading habits of the fourth grade students in primary school.
