Abstract :
Environmental education, as in many other subjects, is also one of the most important topics in the Social Studies course. The necessity of environmental education is emphasized in the Social Studies Curriculum. In this respect, there is a great deal of responsibility for explaining the importance of environmental education in Social Studies to both teachers and researchers in this field. Because, the development of a field is related to research in that field. It is also one of the most important topics in the Social Studies course.This research aims to determine the orientation of graduate and doctoral theses conducted in the field of Environmental Education in Social Studies in Turkey. In this research was used.document analysis, one of the qualitative research methods, The data were analyzed by line-line coding; firstly the themes were then reached from these themes. It was determined as a result of the research that there are limited theses on environmental education in the field of Social Studies; environmental education in the Social Studies, is mostly studied at the graduate level. In general, it has been studied that teachers and pre-service teachers generally have their opinions about their professional competence and their attitudes towards the environment. In addition, It was determined as a result of the research that the studies were conducted with quantitative research method and the studies based on qualitative research method were very limited; more scale and survey based on application-based research. Based on the results of the research, it can be said that priority should be given to applied doctoral thesis studies on environmental education. In addition, in order to collect more in-depth data, it is necessary to focus on qualitative research methods.
