Abstract :
Aim: As a result of occupational diseases which are totally preventable, material and moral losses have reached an important dimension especially in Developing Societies. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between the number of expected and reported occupational diseases in Turkey in 2010-2016. Occupational disease is defined in the Law No. 5510 on social insurance and general health insurance as temporary or permanent illness, physical or mental disability which the insured is subjected to due to a repeated reason or due to the nature of the work performed by the insured. Methods: The scanning model was used in the research. The screening model is a research approach that aims to describe a situation in the past or present as it exists. Official statistics of the Social Security Institution have been reached. Results: In our country, the number of occupational diseases is not recorded correctly and the data obtained from official sources has been determined. However, regular records of the notification of occupational diseases are important both to organize preventive regulatory activities to prevent occupational diseases and to have social and legal rights, such as disability and compensation rights, of the employees who are caught up with occupational fastness. Among the reasons for the insufficient number of Occupational Diseases reported in Turkey are some legal and medical regulations, malfunctions related to the functioning of inspection and inspection mechanisms, reasons for the lack of information and education of the concerned parties. In our country, the need for a systematic, effective and solution-producing structure is obvious in terms of diagnosis of occupational diseases, regulation of the treatments and the realization of the necessary rehabilitation. Systematically collecting data on occupational diseases, analyzing and interpreting them and transferring them to related units and updating occupational hygiene prevention policies are important.
