Abstract :
Treatment of [2]catenated sec. octamide (1) with methyl iodide under an alkaline condition gave the corresponding Nmethylated tert. octamide (2) which was reduced to [2]catenated tert. octamine (3). The structures of 2 and 3 were studied by X-ray crystal structure and 1H NMR analyses.
