Abstract
(4R,5R)-3-Benzyloxymethyl-4,5-isopropylidenedioxycyclopent-2-enone (1), a versatile intermediate for the synthesis of carbocyclic nucleosides was synthesized from D-ribose in 10 steps and 26% overall yield.
