Abstract :
Earlier this year the House of Commons Trade and Industry Select Committee Inquiry into Energy Policy stated While a major effort would be required to turn around public opinion, and despite the currently unfavourably economic case for new nuclear plant, the question as to eventual new nuclear build cannot and must not he duelled any longer. We recommend that a formal presumption be made now for purposes of long-term planning that new nuclear plant may be required in the course of the next two decades. The author will examine the challenges facing the nuclear industry in turning round public opinion by building trust in our ability to be a safe, profitable, technology-led business that has no detrimental impact on the environment.
