Abstract :
This paper presents a new, accurate and robust fault locatin al orithm for series compensated lines. The alp h m is iev8oped as a one-end fundamental frequenc ased technique and offsets both the series compensation e1 fect and the reactance effect resulting from the remote end infeed. The method uses phase coordinates (abc) instead of symmetrical components (012). The basic al orithm is resented for a line compensated by one three-plase bank apseries capacitors. The presented fault locating method has been extensively tested using the EMl" model of a 4WkV 300km transmission line. The enclosed results demonstrate very high accuracy and robusbess of the algorithm.
