Abstract
An aeroderivative gas turbine was selected as the heart of a medium size 30 MW co-generation
power facility utilizing biomass low BTU fuel. The size of the generator and combined cycle plant
are compatible with gasification and fuel material supplies for most independent power suppliers. The
Brazilian wood biomass demonstration project phase II was the vehicle to define the gas turbine modifications
necessary to operate on low BTU fuel. The LM2500 was chosen because of its extended industrial
service of over 17 million hours of operation since its introduction and because the modifications
required were modest. Experience with steam injected and augmented operation provided insight into
the handling of the increased fuel flow necessary for low BTU operation. This paper will discuss the
various modifications required for the LM2500PH configuration gas turbine to operate on low BTU
fuel.
