Abstract :
The possible cost and energy effects of the proposed Ivorian energy building code are described. Energy and economic analysis via computer simulations of typical large and small office buildings indicates that the code requirements may reduce energy use by 21%+ in large office buildings and by 33%+ in small office buildings compared with current practices. It also shows that code requirements increase the incremental net present value by 115 US dollars/m2 for large office buildings and by 129 US dollars/m2 for small office buildings. The parametric results presented could provide information for embedding economically rational levels of investment in energy efficiency.
