Abstract :
Utilising a model design of a high rise concrete frame and structured questionnaire, the results of an investigation concerning the selection of transportation methods, as perceived by contractorsʹ planning engineers, are presented. Findings reveal that tower cranes dominate transportation methods for high rise in situ concrete buildings, although contractors will frequently utilise concrete pumps in conjunction. Significant improvements in production performance are obtained when concrete pumps are employed for concrete placing operations. Eight predominant selection factors are identified, ranked and correlated. Relative costs are considered the chief selection criterion.
