The Effectiveness of Some Disinfectants and Detergents against Microbial Activity

The ability ofeight cleaning products to inhibit microbial,. especially fimgal, growth was investiga~ed in laboratory experiments. The disinfectant based on sodIum hypochlorIte and the glycol-contammg detergent provided the best biocidal eJrect, preventing microbial activity completely on dusty sh~et metal and inhibiting microbial growth significantly on wallpaper. The other chlorme-releasmg product also proved to be a quite effective disinfectant. On the other hand, the effectIVeness of the products containing different alcohols and quaternary ammonium compounds remamed relatIVely low, because their durability decreased noticeably with time. The phosphate-based detergent had practically no inhibitory effect on microbial activity
