Abstract :
The paper reports the results of experimental studies to determine the impact of pollutant concentration, paint thickness and substrate type on the adsorption and desorption of building materials. Paint and painted gypsum board were chosen as substrate due to their presence as large surface areas in the indoor environment. The pollutants used for adsorption were toluene and a mixture of six volatile organic compounds. The results indicate that as the thickness of paint increases the sorption strength increases. The sink strength was higher for a single compound than for the same compound as part of a mixture.
