Evaluation of nematicidal properties of some members of the family Solanaceae

Effects of standard extracts of roots and shoots of some plants of the family Solanaceae on the mortality and larval hatching of the root-knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita (Kofoid and White), Chitwood, were determined. In general, ‘S’ concentration of water extracts of shoots of all the test plants exhibited 100% mortality of the nematode, with less effect of root extracts. Larval hatching and nematode mortality were strongly influenced by the concentration of extract, plant species and the duration of exposure.
