Drying trials of thin stillage from the manufacture of rice spirit

Thin stillage generated by a rice spirit distillery was treated by spray drying in order to prepare distillersʹ soluble powder, which could be used as a medium in microbial culture. The drying capability of the stillage could be improved by the addition of gelling agents, such as maltodextrin or gum arabic. The powders prepared were used successfully for the culture of yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae THB002).
