Investigation of the commutator quality of electric traction motors by means of the transformation method

The reliability of contemporary traction motors and the factors which have an effect on them are studied in this paper. The centre of interest of the article is the description of the transformation method of determining the quality of a commutator, the substance of which consists in picking up the current between brushes of the same polarity with the simultaneous gradual rotation of the armature through 360° while feeding the main poles with alternating voltage.
