SPICE applications in education: insulator strings of overhead transmission lines

SPICE is a general-purpose simulation program for the analysis of DC or AC electrical circuits. In the present paper, the usefulness of the SPICE circuit analysis program is demonstrated as an educational tool in overhead transmission line insulator analysis. Two circuits are presented. One is a string of suspension insulators and the other is the grading ring. Both circuits are analyzed for the variation of the voltage distribution on the insulators against time.
