Abstract :
This paper deals with the application of an infeasible interior point method to optimal power flow problems. Besides discussing the problem formulation, the paper offers a detailed description of the infeasible interior point algorithm; it also addresses some important implementation issues such as the determination of the barrier parameter, the choice of the initial point, and the efficient solution of the optimality-condition equations by sparse matrix techniques. Some suggestions are proposed that significantly improve the performance of the algorithm. Computational results on large-scale power systems have shown that the algorithm is fast and robust, suitable to real-time applications.
