Computational mechanics applied to interaction problems

This paper presents a general discussion on the application of computational mechanics concepts to solve engineering problems involving interaction effects between different media—for example, structure–soil/rock interaction and/or different phases such as solid–fluid interaction. The discussion includes illustrations based on numerical analyses of such problems using coupled finite element and boundary element, coupled finite element and infinite element methods. A few of the other mechanics concepts such as damage mechanics and optimization are also included in the discussion
