Abstract
Rebound and reentrainment processes are briefly reviewed.
They are discussed in light of a new simulation
of incomplete particle bounces. In the simulation, par·
ticle trajectories are followed after bouncing with insufficient
energy to escape the surface adhesion well. A
hypothesized process, rebound-reentrainment, is pre-dicted to be important only for large particles (> 10
fLm radius), or even larger sized particles if the coefficients
of restitution are small compared to glass (j.e.,
< 0.95). The Reeks et al. (1988) theory does not appear
well supported for small (micrometer size) particles
