Abstract
FERC’s Standard Market Design requires all independent transmission providers to administer a day-ahead market. For reasons ranging from reliability to demand response, there can be valid reasons to do so. But day-ahead markets cost millions of dollars to set up, and some restructured markets do without them just fine.
