Because of the unique physical characteristics of electricity, including an interconnected network, no storage, real-time balancing and long lead times, it is important not to assume that “electric markets should work because other markets work.” Electric markets require close attention and continuing fine-tuning to assure that market problems are quickly identified, contained, and remedied.
