Transmission Management in the Deregulated Electric Industry: A Case Study on Reactive Power

The vertical dis-integration of electric power provision that accompanies deregulation can result in a misallocation of system control and responsibilities, which can pose a threat to reliable system operations. A case study of the Colombia system develops a regulatory framework for managing reactive power that utilizes both mandatory and market-based mechanisms to ensure the provision of adequate voltage support.
