Refining the Carlson–Parkin method

The measurement error of the Carlson–Parkin estimator, which is often used to quantify qualitative survey data, can be derived through Monte Carlo simulations. Based on such simulations, it is possible to check the estimator’s sensitivity to mis-specifications, and to improve its performance.
