Abstract
This paper proposes a model in which workers use information on their firm’s profitability to determine their effort. The model, which is derived from a standard utility function, yields results similar to Akerlof and Yellen’s [Quarterly Journal of Economics 105 (1990) 255] fair wage–effort hypothesis.
