Did state bank branching deregulation produce large growth effects?

Previous research claiming large growth effects of deregulation of state bank branching laws is biased by contemporaneous correlation between the regressors and the error term of the regression model. Robustness tests indicate that the growth effect of branching reform is much smaller than initially estimated.
