EFFECTS OF THE CRACKS ON DISPLACEMENT AND STRESSES

Crack is one of the indices used in the analysis of rock mass classification and it effects design and the execution of tunnels as well as rock mass constants. Unfortunately, its characteristic is almost unknown beforehand. The influence of the crack in relation to stresses and displacements has been studied by application of finite element method on a simple square model of rock mass. A set of equations which relates crack characteristics to the ratio of stresses and displacements, in the presence and absence of crack, is propped.
