Abstract :
An algorithm and a code for computing viscous effects of compressible flow around arbitrary airfoil shapes is developed. The flow field solution is obtained using boundary layer and outer inviscid flow concepts, while taking into account their interactions. These interactions include boundary layer displacement thickness, wake and other second order effects. Boundary layer displacement thickness effects are modelled using a transpiration velocity on the airfoil surface. Either direct or semi-inverse methodology can be chosen in the computer code to simulate the interactions. Low Mach number and incompressible flows around various airfoil shapes are computed and compared with experimental results and good agreement is found.
