Growth and inequality: Are the 1990s different?

The paper examines the empirical relationship between growth–inequality. It concludes that while pre-1990 the growth process was not accompanied by increases in inequality, after 1990 a positive and significant correlation appears. This finding survives a number of robustness checks.
