Abstract :
The reactions of metals and alloys with gaseous sulfur, sulfur dioxide and oxygen mixtures are very complicated and can cause severe corrosion problems, The different corrosion products Which are produced in such an environment, in some cases, increase corrosion rates tremendously. The use of stability diagrams will show, under a given condition, what sort of product is formed. Among the different co-ordinate which can be selected to show the stability diagrams are log Pso2 vs. log Po2 or log Ps2 vs. log Po2 at constant temperature, log Po2 vs. 1/T at constant Pso2 and log Pso2 vs. 1/T at constant Po2. the use of personal computers to draw these diagrams is explained and a critical review of the diagrams for Cu-S2-O2 is given.
