Synthesis of 5-arylidene-2-aryl-3-(2-chlorophenothiazinoacetamidyl)l,3-thiazolidin-4-ones as antifungal and anticonvulsant agents

Condensation of N^10-(acetohydrazido)-2-chlorophenothiazi!ne (2) with various substituted aromatic aldehydes yields arylidcncacctohydrazido-2-chlorophenothiazincs (3) which on cycloaddition with mercaptoacetic acid afford the corresponding 4-thiazolidinones (4). Treatment of the 4-thiazolidinones with various substituted aromatic aldehydes afford S-arylidene-2aryl-3-(2-chlorophcnothiazinoacetamidyl)-l,3-thiazolidin-4-oncs (5). The compounds exhibit antifungal and anticonvulsant activities.
