Thermal degradation of α- and β-PbO2 and its relationship to capacity loss

The thermal degradation of α and β PbO2 and its relationship to capacity loss was studied using galvanostatic discharge and voltamperometry. The results clearly demonstrate the dramatic effect of the thermal treatment on the capacity of the PAM. The variation of proton diffusion with temperature was determined for both α- and β-PbO2. The two forms of PbO2 exhibit different behaviour with regard to water loss.
